end of an era

It was one heck of a summer holiday. Loved everything about it, cherished everyone I shared it with.

Now.

Go ahead.

Complain about 199% overfull lectures, about the boredom of 3 hour breaks, about the woes of switching tutorials with others, about getting 4 day weeks instead of THREE. Go ahead.

I've had each day of my semester planned out for me, no holidays, no switches, no SPACE, no alterations.

Let's go!

we always have something to do

First we went to Red Box thinking that Karaoke would be the best way to have fun with a big group.

The power went out.

We were in the dark for about half an hour, and when the power came back on, we had to wait another 40 minutes or so for the servers to come back to life.

Fine, so they gave us an extension of an hour. It was one long wait, but it was the most important agenda of our day, so unlike some people who took the opportunity to leave while it was dark, we stayed on.

I thought the extension would do us good, since we had free flow of food, we could take the opportunity to grab MORE. But Red Box, being run by chinese blokes like me, would be smarter. They stopped serving em food at 2. Our extension was till 3pm. Way to do business, Red Box.

Just when we thought we were back to having fun..

Yes. It happened again. And this time, they already took my credit card to make payments. ARGH!

We had a good 20 minutes left, but our patience were drained. I went out wanting to lodge a complaint but all they could do was to give me an hour free THE NEXT TIME I CAME BACK TO SING. RUH-height....

So we went bowling. IT WAS FUN! After all these years..

I got REALLY rusty! Hmph, some kinda school player I am. Used to play for SMDU when I was in Form 3. With HILMI! Remember, dude? Well, I sucked back then, shouldn't have improved throughout the years.

The bowling alley had this sweet spot where the central cooling came from. It was like the winds of MELBOURNE!

We then went to Kepong fo Yee Sang, a little tradition of ours. OMG, my 5th this year. Food was great, company was excellent.

At my house, we came up with the best games EVER! OMG, Mafia without Mafias was EPIC!

Hopefully I'll see you guys one more time before I leave. The funnest bunch I know.

brand new 50's in the bill folder

Since the first day of Chinese New Year happened to fall on Valentine's Day this year, Alicia and I had our little celebration just now.

After going through loads of blogs and reviews, I decided to bring her to Nerovivo, an Italian restaurant famous for its woodfire pizzas along Jalan Ceylon.

Since Melbourne already has its fair share of woodfire pizzas, I didn't order one. For our appetizer, we ordered the "Antipasto di pesce misto per due o quattro persone", which I think means seafood appertizer for 2 or 4 persons. Of course, we ordered the one for 2.

Being categorized under the heading of WARM STARTERS, it was more like a "FINISHER" for us. We were so full after finishing this, we didn't really enjoy the rest of our meal. HOW SAD! It was a great appetizer, nonetheless, but the prawns weren't fresh AT ALL! Hate it when prawns have the texture of mash potatoes.

Alicia ordered the "Spaghetti con capesante crema di peperoni gialli pomodorini ed erbette", which was basically spaghetti with scallops.

To be honest, it tasted kinda like curry. HAHA! I don't know why. But the scallops were OKAY. The spaghetti, however, was slightly undercooked. I know, I know, it's supposed to be al dente, but it was more like al hard-ay.

I had the "Gnocchi sbilunghi ai piselli con emulsione di cozze e pistilli di zafferano". That's a mouthful. I think there's a spelling error there, but that's what I got from their website.

It was a dish of green pea gnocchi with mussels, and unfortunately, I didn't enjoy it. There's this weird smell that comes from putting the gnocchi in your mouth, but the mussels were fresh.

For dessert, we shared a Neromisu, which was actually pretty good. It's TIRAMISU la! They just had to zhng the name up. But we were so stuffed we couldn't finish it.

This is pretty much how the place looked like from where we were sitting. There is a bar, and al fresco seating, but there's no "NON-SMOKING AREA", just so you know. Another thing to note is that this place can get kinda noisy. Go early to avoid this, unless you really like noise.

In a nutshell, Nerovivo didn't really meet my expectations. Previous years at Frangipani and Cafe Cafe were just phenomenal, but Nerovivo's food, ambience and staff knowledge just didn't cut it for me. Perhaps it was just a combination of wrong things, since so many other people find the place out of this world.

After dinner, we headed to GSC Signature for the first time! Haha, wanted to watch Valentine's Day, but there was only ONE seat left. So we watched Wolfman instead. Not too shabby.

Nero = Black. Vivo = Alive.

we never stopped eating

So 'tis the end of CHOR YAT, the first day of the Lunar New Year. It was terribly tiring, but I loved it! I guess visiting friends and family is what it's all about, and we do a lot of that during CNY.

Yea, I got sick of the usual t-shirt and jeans.

So far, I've already had about 3 yee sang's, and I think I still can fit some more in this little tummy of mine.

This festive season also involved lots of cam-whoring. I was so surprised to see my dad taking photos of himself with his phone at my grandmother's house.

More visiting to do tomorrow. Better get enough sleep to do it all over again.

WOOHOO MORE ANGPOWS!

pheeeeewwww.. BOOM!

I love the snacks, the tidbits, the SHANDY, the company, the atmosphere, the food, the weather, the ang pows, the food, the visits, the food, the joy, the new clothes, the food, the fireworks, and most of all, THE ALWAYS DELICIOUS NGA-KU.

Wishing everyone a ROARING tiger year. And a happy Valentine's day.

Don't get TOO fat.
