been dry

I am without inspiration.

Not so much of blogging but of photography. Everything's the same ol', nothing's new. Makes me wonder what I've really been blogging about the past months.

Oh I didn't get Chase Jarvis' iPhone.

Off on my 2 week farm placement tomorrow. Gotta wake up around 6am so I reckon I'm hitting the sack pretty soon. Still contemplating on bringing annoyance. What do you guys think? I wonder if the swine flu gets to cameras.

Well, at least I'm going to Auckland end of July. It's gonna be awesome, fresh new material everywhere. But not really wishing it'd come by fast as the very next day of coming back from NZ is the first day of semester 2!

Wish me luck with the animals. It's gonna be 2 full weeks of endless train rides. To Dandenong, to be exact.

the "chase" JARVIS project

So Chase Jarvis, the one who actually got D90's from Nikon before it was launched, is giving away his iPhone 3G.

I WANT IT.

The idea is to upload your favourite mobile photos (STRICTLY MOBILE) onto his Facebook fan page, and he'll pick his fav and post his iPhone to the winner.

And so I got Teck to help me, and we went to RMIT to laser cut these bad boys.

Do ignore what's written beneath "JARVIS". It's just to avoid wastage of extra cardboard.

And so I uploaded these photos.

Competition ends 6am Melbourne time.

Follow me on Twitter
OR you can check em' out on FB itself.

What I've always wanted to see. Minus the snow.

Keep one for the summer, to remind you of winter's warmth.

i went back to lawson grove shop

So I went back.

I had the poshest boiled eggs ever! WITH TRUFFLES! But since I'm not paying 3 digits to eat it they only gave very little. It's my first time having truffles, and after that I still had no idea what it tastes like.

The soldiers were cooked with goose fat, now THAT was amazing. And that salt thingy on the side is FANTASTIC!

ARMS OPEN WIDE!

So I was just listening to this album and got so excited when I knew how to sing the 10th song! Haha!

Remember that I went to Sydney last year? Yea, we went to Hillsong so many times we could memorise the songs. :s

I actually tooks lotsa photos and videos at Hillsong, just too lazy to edit em. You should go check out the whole Sydney series. It's under the "adventures" tag. Just keep scrollin'! :)

surrender

I just wanna make this a real quick one.

Study break so far has been.. Well, not so great. I planned it well, but day by day, I just got more and more slack and was behind by days.

I rescheduled everything last night but this evening found it impossible to follow again.

Then the devil's attacks got stronger. Alicia was studying with me. Well, she was studying, I was just staring into space getting distracted like nobody's business. When I decided to get back into the "zone", I wanted to print something off Wiki.

After countless tries, the printer sounded like it was printing but the paper was just blank! I removed the cartridges to check and suspected them to have dried up. I was just printing with em a few days back, and there couldn't have been a better time than this!

I started kicking my printer and got SO MAD, I just could not get back to studying. I think even Alicia got a bit frightened of me. At that moment I knew SO CLEARLY it was the devil. He knew just when to press the right buttons.

Alicia went back to her apartment, and I decided to "run it off". I got into my running gear and ran out realising it was raining. I did not care. I ran and went home dizzy.

And this is where my story starts. Haha.

In the shower, I felt God asking me to sing. The first song that came to mind somehow was SURRENDER. I sang it like there wasn't anyone home. After my shower I wanted to play some music, and put my iTunes on shuffle. The first song that played was SURRENDER. I so knew He was trying to say something. I put on my clothes and decided to lie on my bed and listen to the song again.

Ah, how clear. I was stressing so much, trying to do everything with my own strength, with my own knowledge. It's pretty obvious why I was so drained and weak. He reminded my once again that it's ALL FOR HIM, I just have to LAY IT ALL DOWN and SURRENDER IT ALL TO HIM. If someone tells me this I would just be like, yeah yeah, but the fact that He laid me down so I could hear these words was just... SUCH A REVELATION!

Peace came straight away and I couldn't stop singing the song. Being in an AWESOME church like Planet Shakers, I admit that I do get TOO familiar with things sometimes. But this song spoke to me so differently as I laid on my bed.

'Rather than planning it all on your own, rather than making time for me around your work, rather than trying to get busy once you wake up in the morning, why not take some time when the sun rises, to ask ME what you should do for the day? Don't you think I would know what would be best for you? Don't you think I would care more about your studies than you ever will?'

I then thought, nah, maybe I shouldn't write about this. Too lazy? Slightly embarrassed? But IAN EUGENE YUN, when I was having my dinner, I clicked on your MSN cuz I found your profile photo pretty funny somehow, and guess what song you were listening to? SURRENDER. What ARE the chances?? So I was like, OK OK I'LL POST IT UP. Haha.

There's nothing more refreshing, nothing more peaceful.

Rely on HIM.

back with some colour

Ahh, Saturday morning, breakfast with awesome buds, great baked eggs, acceptable coffee, Brunswick, cool weather, what could go wrong?

Oh yea, exams.

Give your camera some credit.

so.. hard..

Why is it so hard to study.... Why can't we just read our Fokus books like we used to? GO FAJAR BAKTI! Now I have to check the dictionary so many times just to understand one sentence..

i am not a photographer..

..until I step into a darkroom and command it.

I'm serious. I found this old school flash and a B&W film that expired in 1980 at Camberwell market for $4. I plan to use that film only when I have access to a darkroom and fully understand the concept of printing them with my hands.

For this series, I was using an expired film from 2008(I think), and I was amazed with the results! It's my first time using a "non C-41" film (Big W can't print em, it's done in a darkroom). A Rollei Retro 100, made in Germany. I was skeptical about shooting at ISO100, but that didn't seem to be a problem at all with the prints!

NO EDITING WHATSOEVER.

For the first time I saw Melbourne in a new light.

Hello Pandas

What a FANTASTIC AD! I wonder who did the banner there. Just AMAZING. HAHA.

I need a portfolio.. :s

In other news, as a result of self-convincing, I stayed home yesterday. "You get access to free coffee, closer toilet, unlimited snacks, a LARGER computer screen and most importantly, you can make noises when you crunch down those little Hello Pandas," thought Wei Xiong.

DETTTT!! How wrong was I. I ended up studying so little, but at least the bed was made! :p

Here I am again, at the comfy law library. Still blogging, but it's my only source of entertainment, so give me a break. :)

At 9.53 am.

melbourne has been gloomy lately

And that's not helping.

It's sad really, how it's still exams that get the best (or worst) out of me. It's the time when everything's amplified, whether it's stress, emo-ness or even hype.

Why is it still something I struggle most with? In my heart of hearts I believe that shouldn't be, being warriors CALLED to do greater things.

If even exams can't be dealt with courageously, swiftly, and with great confidence, I wonder what He'd trust with my hands.

After almost 20 years of taking exams, I believe that's really not where life's at. I'm not saying it shouldn't be prioritised, NO! We should be EXCELLING in it! Be the best. But there's more..

It's really sad to have to turn down catch up's at my favourite cafe's. Haha.

now it's just me

8.30AM. Sharp.

"Sorry, it's not opened yet"

The 2 girls halted immediately, but stood by the automatic glass doors for the clock to strike 8.30.

I was the first to arrive, and was surprised noone else was there before me. I guess Frank Tate really made a difference. I'm yet to visit that place. Call me old school, but I still prefer my north facing window with a view of bare trees on luscious green grass.

It was 8.27 and a few people are waiting with me now. I stood up to put my keys in my bag and to my surprise, a guy "kiasu-ly" stood up with me thinking that the doors were open. I sat back down and he slipped into an "I'm just standing by" mode.

It is sad, however, that most of the communal tables, the best ones, have been reserved for law students.

It's been a long time since I've been here, those were the good old Unilodge days.

Another librarian used here card to enter the library, and a group followed behind, rushing to find their favourite seats. I picked up my bag and followed behind, wanting a good seat for myself. I mean, that's the whole reason why I woke up at 7, right?

Let's hope the kiasu-ness doesn't get to me.

lawson grove shop

On Sunday morning before church, I woke up relatively early knowing that the fog will be covering the city. I got on my bike and cycled across Yarra River. My fingers were FREEZING and my ears were almost dropping off. BUT IT WAS SO REFRESHING. The city was so beautiful, and there couldn't be a better time to cycle.

After about 5km of cycling I entered a charming cul-de-sac and arrived at this lovely little Milk-Bar-cum-Cafe tucked under a canopy of trees called The Lawson Grove Shop. Hidden among old-school apartments, this place is a jewel slit under the Warwick Lodge! Coziness hugs you all over as you enter its doors.

"The bitterness of bad coffee lingers longer than the sweetness of low cost" or something like that was written on the coffee machine. As it was impossible to get a table on a Sunday morning filled with families longing for some bonding time and a perfect brekkie, I had to sit by the bench, but my poached eggs with ratatouille outdid itself. My first time having ratatouille, I think.

The neighbourhood knows just the right place to have a chat with pooch-lovin friends over breakfast, and they should be proud of this hidden treasure. I AM SO GOING BACK THERE!

After exams.. :(
